I make dumb art with a clear ambiguity. In The Interpretation of Culture, Clifford Geertz wrote, “anthropologists don't study villages, they study in villages.” To me, art is not about communicating an idea but sharing an experience. Sharing is based on a personal taste, an idiosyncratic understanding of the world. Instead of providing smart educational art, I create situations that suspend logic and evoke an unfamiliarity that provides a space for self-reflection. I believe to be human is to navigate through interpretations and misinterpretations in life. Nonetheless, individuals who are continually making analogies, creating references from what they know to what they don't, will approximate the truth. My responsibility as an artist is to describe my experience and share it as a gentle reminder that we do see the world through our tinted lens.
